🔑 Seed Phrase Seed Phrase

The 12–24 words that can restore a wallet. With just these words, anyone can rebuild the wallet — so it's effectively the 'master key'.

💡
Common misconception — is it just like a password? It's far more important! One seed phrase lets anyone fully restore (= steal) your wallet.

🏦 In plain terms — the master key to a vault

A seed phrase is like the master key to a bank vault. Even if you buy a new vault (wallet app), this master key restores everything inside (coin permissions). So if you lose the app you're fine as long as you have the seed phrase — but conversely, if someone else learns it, your whole vault opens for them.

✅ Storing it safely

  • ✍️ Write it on paper and keep it somewhere safe from water/fire (ideally 2 copies)
  • 🔒 Engraving it on a metal backup plate is even safer
  • 🙅 Never store it digitally (photos, notes apps, cloud, messengers)

🚨 These are 100% scams

  • 📞 “Enter your seed phrase to get an airdrop” → scam
  • 🛟 “I'm support, let me help you recover — tell me the words” → scam
  • 🎁 “Verify to receive coins” while asking for the words → scam

❓ FAQ

Is a seed phrase the same as a password?
No. A password locks an app and can be changed, but a seed phrase restores the wallet itself — it can't be changed, and if leaked you lose your assets.
What happens if I lose my seed phrase?
If you delete the wallet app or lose the device, you may permanently lose access to your coins. That's why an offline backup is essential.
Do exchanges have a seed phrase too?
Usually not. Exchanges hold the coins for you, so you just log in. A seed phrase comes from a 'personal wallet you hold yourself'.
