💬 “I was born from a fandom, not a fork. Every fan who shows up, every card collected, makes me a little stronger.”

💬 TL;DR
  • Jan 2025: the Animecoin Foundation launches ANIME with Azuki, the anime-style NFT project, and opens the airdrop claim.
  • It is the fuel (gas) for Animechain, a network being built for anime apps, collectibles, and social spaces.
  • Supply is capped at 10 billion, all of it planned, released slowly over several years. No endless minting.
  • It is a culture coin: the goal is to line up anime creators and fans on the same chain.

📖 The Story

In March 2024, the team behind Azuki picked a home for a bigger idea. Azuki was already a famous anime-style NFT collection, but a picture you own is a quiet thing. The plan was to give the whole fandom a shared place to gather, and they chose Arbitrum as the ground to build it on.

23 January 2025. The Animecoin Foundation switched ANIME on and opened the airdrop. A large slice went straight to the people who had collected Azuki and its sister NFTs, a thank-you to the fans who had been there first. By the next day the project was already worth more than $350 million. It was the sixth coin handed out through Binance's HODLer airdrop program, so a batch also went to people simply holding BNB.

Underneath the launch is a quieter promise. ANIME is meant to be the house currency of an anime world: the token you spend on collectibles and merch, the fuel for the apps, and the voting chip in AnimeDAO, where holders help steer what gets made. The chain that runs it all, Animechain, is still being built. As of late 2025 it sits in testing, not yet fully open.

So this is a coin caught mid-story. The fandom and the money arrived first; the world they are meant to live in is still under construction.

🧩 How it works

ANIME is an ordinary ERC-20 token, living on both Ethereum and Arbitrum. Its real job is to be the gas on Animechain, a network stacked on top of Arbitrum. Animechain is a Layer-3, which means it settles its activity down to Arbitrum (a Layer-2), and Arbitrum in turn settles to Ethereum. Think of it as a fast top floor that borrows the safety of the building below it.

🎴 Animechain · L3 anime apps · ANIME pays gas 🅰️ Arbitrum · L2 batches the layer above Ξ Ethereum · L1 the bedrock that secures it all settles ↓ settles ↓ ↑ secures ↑ secures
🎴 Animechain (L3) sits on top and sends its activity down ↓ to 🅰️ Arbitrum (L2), which settles down ↓ to Ξ Ethereum (L1) — and the safety flows back up ↑ from the bedrock to the top floor.

🌗 Light & Shadow

🌕 Light
  • It starts with a real fandom. Azuki already has a large, devoted following, so the audience exists before the chain even opens
  • The 10 billion cap is fixed. No one can quietly mint more and water down what holders own
  • A clear job to do: gas for Animechain, currency for collectibles and merch, and votes in AnimeDAO
🌑 Shadow
  • The product is not finished. Animechain was still in testing in late 2025, so the main reason to hold ANIME is mostly a promise so far
  • The launch leaned on hype. A token worth over $350 million a day in can fall just as fast when attention moves on
  • Insiders hold a meaningful share (team and advisors got about 15.6%, vesting over three years), and as those coins unlock they add selling pressure
  • It has no security of its own. It borrows safety from Arbitrum and Ethereum, so it is only as sound as the layers beneath it

🧬 Evolution lineage

Animecoin is not a fork of any coin. It is a spin-off of the Azuki NFT project, an offshoot rather than a copy. On the technical side it lives on Animechain, which is built with Arbitrum's tools, so it descends from the Arbitrum → Ethereum stack.

❓ FAQ

How many ANIME coins are there?
The cap is fixed at 10 billion ANIME, and no more can ever be minted. Billions are already in circulation, with the rest released slowly over several years on a set unlock schedule.
Where can I buy Animecoin?
It trades on several major exchanges, which listed it on launch day in January 2025. It moves a lot, so only try a small amount for fun. (Information only, not advice to use any particular exchange or to invest.)
